How to Judge Junior Textiles

First Impressions

Does the exhibit show individuality? Is it suitable for the class it is entered into? Has the competitor shown creativity? Is the design of the exhibit cohesive and make sense?

How is the piece finished? Does it show attention to detail? Does it show correct construction of fashion details? Is the material neatly pressed and free from creases?

Does it show appropriate skill level for the age group? Are the construction techniques that are used suitable for the article? Does it display proper tension, seam finishes etc. Are the stitches formed accurately and uniformly? Are the hems, facings, armhole seams all neatly finished?

The above judging criteria and comments have been provided for the purpose of education and do not represent the views, opinions or position of judges, officials or the RA&HS. Any resemblance to actual persons, competitors, or exhibits living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental.
